OverviewThe Director, Community Engagement is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the League’s community outreach initiatives and will work directly with the Sr.
ResponsibilitiesLead the day-to-day execution of Community Engagement initiatives that increase local relevancy and enhance the MLS brand throughout the United States and Canada.
Lead communication with community impact partners at all 30 MLS clubs, supporting the implementation of strategic plans and strengthening impact efforts throughout local markets; lead daily communications around best practices, committee calls, Year End Awards, annual meetings, etc. Manage logistics for service events, campaigns and outreach efforts around MLS tent pole events (e.g. MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup) in partnership with MLS clubs, including budget management and reconciliation.
Support the development of fan-centric strategic plans in partnership with Sr. Vice President. Lead the fulfillment of charitable partnerships including but not limited to program development, execution, marketing, promotions and budget management; ensure program deliverables are met, and partnership objectives remain aligned.
Lead the creation of program toolkits (web banners, LEDs, PA/video board, etc.) and distribution of marketing assets (broadcast, in-stadium and digital/social channels).
Lead Community digital platforms, with support from MLS Digital and Social teams, including content development and promotional schedules; will have oversight of daily execution of both social and digital channels, including management of freelancers and/or consultants.
Supervise schedule of events, photo and video archive and memorabilia inventory.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with club community relations staff, external program partners and community organizations.
Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:Plan, monitor, and review performance;Coach and counsel employees;Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policiesDevelop personal growth opportunities for employeesSupport other Community Engagement projects, as requested.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree required8+ years of community relations, marketing and/or event planning experienceMinimum 5+ years managing full-time employees, including managers or senior-level staff Required SkillsMust be team-oriented, self-motivated, results driven and able to own projects from conception through execution.
Understanding of brand awareness and positioning, fan engagement and partnership marketing.
Knowledge of social media platforms and basic website navigation.
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
Strong leadership presence with proven ability to manage and develop leadersProven ability to drive cross-functional alignment in complex organizational environmentsSuperior organization, project management skills and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal direction.
High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
Possess a positive “whatever it takes to get the job done” attitude.
Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and AI tools Desired SkillsExperience working within the sports industry.
Passion for purpose-driven work and community impact.
Knowledge of the sport and entertainment industry – soccer specific knowledge a plus.
Knowledge of the Spanish or French Language (business proficiency).
