WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOUSUMMARYThe Vice President, Legal role serves as legal and strategic advisor on employment law and employee relations matters, related legal developments and regulatory changes, compliance and investigative matters, (as more specifically detailed below). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide legal and strategic counsel covering all facets of employment law and employee relations matters. Lead the development, implementation, and updating of employment-related policies, handbooks, procedures, and training programs. Assist in administering the NHL Compliance Plan, including with respect to compliance risk assessments, policy development initiatives, educational programs, internal reporting and monitoring systems. Investigations. Strategize, implement and participate in League and Club-related investigations, including witness interviews, evidence collection, risk assessment, and preparing and presenting investigation findings and recommendations. Responsible for investigation protocols and best practices to ensure consistency, confidentiality, and legal compliance. QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge Areas/ExperienceRequired8+ years of legal experience in: (i) employment law, (ii) overseeing enterprise compliance programs (multi-state and international - preferred) and governance initiatives, and (iii) investigations involving legal, operational, and reputational considerations. Experience managing others, including outside counsel. Education/CertificationsJuris Doctor (J. D.) from an accredited law school. Admission to practice law in at least one U. S. jurisdiction (New York preferred). Required SkillsSound business judgment and the ability to timely make and advise on strategic and tactical decisions in time sensitive, complex and/or rapidly evolving situations, including in the areas of risk assessment and mitigation. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional integrity and professionalism. Ability to recognize, evaluate and manage / navigate legal, business, operational, and reputational considerations.
