About the Terre Haute REXThe Terre Haute REX is a collegiate summer wood-bat team competing in the Prospect League. Since our founding in 2010, the REX have won two Prospect League Championships (2015 & 2018) and have built a reputation for developing both players and front office staff for the next level. Former interns have gone on to work in MLB, MiLB, NFL, NBA, and other professional sports organizations.
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Baseball Operations Data Analytics Intern to assist our front office and coaching staff in utilizing TrackMan and advanced analytics to enhance player development and game strategy.
Position OverviewThe Baseball Operations Data Analytics Intern will work directly with the General Manager, coaching staff, and Baseball Operations department to collect, analyze, and interpret TrackMan data. This role is ideal for students interested in careers in baseball operations, player development, scouting, or sports analytics.
This is a hands-on opportunity to work inside a competitive summer collegiate baseball environment and gain real-world experience in applied baseball analytics.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the collection and management of TrackMan data during home gamesAnalyze advanced metrics including:Exit VelocityLaunch AngleSpin RateSpin AxisVertical/Horizontal BreakRelease Point & ExtensionHard Hit %Expected Batting Metrics (xBA, xSLG when applicable)Create pre-game and post-game analytical reports for coaching staffDevelop pitcher usage and hitter trend reportsAssist with defensive positioning analysisSupport opponent scouting reports using TrackMan dataMaintain organized player performance databasesCollaborate with coaches to translate data into actionable insightsLearning OpportunitiesInterns will gain experience in:Applied baseball analytics using TrackMan technologyTranslating raw data into strategic decisionsPlayer development trackingScouting analyticsCommunicating analytics to coaches and playersWorking in a fast-paced, professional baseball operations environmentQualificationsCurrently enrolled college student (Sport Management, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field preferred)Strong interest in baseball analytics and player developmentWorking knowledge of baseball statistics (traditional and advanced metrics)Experience with Excel required (Pivot Tables, formulas, data organization)Familiarity with R, Python, or other data tools preferred but not requiredStrong attention to detailAbility to maintain confidentiality of player dataMust be available for most home games and occasional office hoursSchedule CommitmentInternship dates: May 27 – August 10Regular home season: May 30 – July 31Availability for potential playoff games in early AugustEvening and weekend availability requiredWhat Makes This Internship ValuableThis is not a “sit in the office” internship.
